BREAKING: Budget presentation: Fubara locked out of Rivers Assembly complex

Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, was blocked from entering the Rivers State House of Assembly quarters on Wednesday.

He had arrived in the morning to present the 2025 state budget but found the gate locked, preventing him from accessing the building.

The governor had earlier promised to follow the Supreme Court’s ruling, which included formally presenting the 2024 budget. This budget was originally presented in December 2023 to a small faction of four lawmakers.

Last week, the Assembly gave Fubara 48 hours to submit the 2025 budget. However, the governor said he was waiting for the Certified True Copy (CTC) of the court judgment before proceeding.

On Sunday, Fubara, through a letter signed by the Secretary to the State Government, Tammy Danagogo, invited lawmakers to a meeting.

The meeting was meant to discuss the Supreme Court ruling, budget presentation, and payment of pending salaries to lawmakers. The goal was to find a way forward for the state.
