The National Agency for the Control of AIDS (NACA) has reassured Nigerians that HIV treatment in government facilities is still free.
The agency emphasized that funding and support from international donors, including the US President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR), the Global Fund, and other partners, remain in place.
NACA Director-General, Ms. Ilori, dismissed false claims that HIV treatment funding had been withdrawn. She confirmed that organizations like the US Government, USAID, and the World Health Organization (WHO) continue to support Nigeria’s HIV/AIDS programs.
She also reaffirmed NACA’s commitment to providing free and uninterrupted HIV treatment to those who need it. According to her, the partnership with donor agencies ensures that access to life-saving medication remains available across government health centers.
Ms. Ilori urged the public to ignore misinformation that could cause panic. She warned against spreading unverified health-related information, as it could create fear and slow down progress in fighting HIV/AIDS.
“NACA remains dedicated to ensuring that no one living with HIV is denied treatment due to false information or fear,” she said.
She encouraged Nigerians to seek health updates from trusted sources and avoid believing or sharing misleading news.
With continuous support from global health organizations, Nigeria is making steady progress in controlling HIV/AIDS, and NACA remains focused on sustaining these achievements.
