Rivers United moved closer to the top of the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) table after securing a 1-0 win against Niger Tornadoes on Saturday.
The match was tough, but Samson Obi scored the only goal for Rivers United in the 81st minute, giving his team a crucial victory.
Meanwhile, league leaders Remo Stars faced a setback, losing 2-1 to Bendel Insurance at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin City. Meyinwa Oritseweyinmi was the hero for Bendel Insurance, scoring twice, while Arinze Anakwe netted the only goal for Remo Stars.
With this result, Remo Stars remain on 54 points after 28 matches, while Rivers United are now eight points behind with 46 points.
In another NPFL fixture, Ikorodu City earned an impressive 1-0 away win against Lobi Stars. Shola Adelani scored the winning goal in the 81st minute, helping Ikorodu City climb to third place in the league standings.
As the season progresses, the race for the NPFL title is getting tighter, with Rivers United closing in on the top spot.
