Rivers: Concerned Muslim Imams caution against impeachment of Gov Fubara

A group of Muslim clerics, under the name Concerned Muslim Imams (CMI), has warned lawmakers in Rivers State against impeaching Governor Siminalayi Fubara. They believe such an action could lead to chaos and hurt the state’s economy.

The warning comes after the Supreme Court reinstated 27 lawmakers loyal to former Governor Nyesom Wike. These lawmakers recently accused Governor Fubara of violating the Constitution, saying he appointed commissioners without their approval.

However, the Imams, in a statement signed by Sheikh Usman Mohammed Bawa and Sheikh Abbas Ibrahim, urged the lawmakers to avoid creating a crisis that could cause violence and destruction in the state. They emphasized the need for peace and cooperation between the governor and the Assembly.

The clerics said they are worried about the safety of their Muslim brothers and other citizens in Rivers State. They urged lawmakers, led by Speaker Martin Amaewhule, to prioritize peace.

The Imams also warned that if political instability continues, it could scare away investors, which would negatively impact the state’s economy. They stressed that no investor would risk their money in a place where there is conflict.

The Imams appealed to both the executive and legislative arms of government to work together for the benefit of Rivers State. They believe a good relationship between both arms will help maintain peace and ensure progress.

As tensions rise, the call from the Concerned Muslim Imams serves as a reminder that political stability is crucial for the development of the state and the well-being of its people.
