US President Donald Trump has blamed former President Joe Biden for the increase in egg prices across the country.
Speaking at a Joint Session of Congress, Trump said Biden’s administration caused the problem, and his team is now working to fix it.
“As you know, we inherited an economic disaster and high inflation from the last administration,” Trump stated. “Joe Biden especially let the price of eggs get out of control—and we are working hard to get it back down,” he added.
Egg prices went up during Biden’s presidency after millions of egg-laying birds were culled due to a bird flu outbreak. However, prices have continued to rise even after Trump took office.
Inflation in the US stood at 3% in February, which is much lower than its peak of 9.1% in 2022.
Trump’s speech in Congress received both cheers and criticism from Republicans and Democrats.
