Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand has shared his thoughts on Mohamed Salah’s chances of winning the Ballon d’Or this year. While he believes the Liverpool star is currently the strongest candidate, he also thinks Salah could miss out on the award.
Salah has had an impressive season, scoring 30 goals in 39 matches. His performances have helped Liverpool stay at the top of the Premier League and reach the last 16 of the Champions League.
Speaking on TNT Sports, Ferdinand said, “Right now, I don’t think there’s anyone else on the podium with him.” However, he also pointed out that the Champions League will play a big role in deciding the winner.
Ferdinand explained that as the tournament progresses, players who perform well in key moments will get more attention. He mentioned that stars like Ousmane Dembélé, Kylian Mbappé, Vinícius Júnior, and Jude Bellingham could become serious contenders if their teams go far in the competition.
He added, “Whoever shines in the semi-finals and final will win it. If Liverpool wins the Champions League, Salah will have a big role in that.”
Salah’s chances of winning the Ballon d’Or will likely depend on how far Liverpool goes in the Champions League. If they don’t reach the later stages, other players may take the spotlight and push him out of contention.
