2027: Tinubu hasn’t indicated interest, APC already has candidate – Orji Kalu

Senator Orji Uzor Kalu has made it clear that the All Progressives Congress (APC) has only one presidential candidate for the 2027 electionPresident Bola Tinubu.

Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today, Kalu said that while he supports an Igbo presidency, it won’t happen in 2027. He believes that Tinubu must first complete his eight-year term before any discussions about an Igbo candidate can take place.

Kalu emphasized that Tinubu has not yet announced his interest in re-election, but the APC has already chosen him as their candidate. He revealed that the party’s leadership, including the National Executive Council (NEC), has given Tinubu a vote of confidence.

The senator argued that Tinubu has made positive changes in the Nigerian economy and that his administration needs more time to continue its work. He also pointed out that winning an election requires support from all regions, not just one ethnic group.

While Kalu believes Nigeria should have an Igbo president, he stressed that the candidate must be widely accepted across the country. He said:

“The Igbo must present an acceptable candidate to all Nigerians. No one zone can make a president. President Tinubu was not elected by the Yoruba. He was elected by all Nigerians.”

For now, the APC has decided that Tinubu will lead the party in 2027, whether he has publicly declared interest or not.
