The Supreme Court has canceled the local government election held in Rivers State on October 5, 2024. The court ruled that the election was not valid because it did not follow the rules in the Electoral Act.

Justice Jamilu Tukur, who delivered the judgment, said the election process had serious issues that made it unacceptable. As a result, the local government chairmen elected in that poll can no longer hold their positions.
