A new UEFA report has revealed that Chelsea’s squad at the end of the 2024 financial year is the most expensive ever in football. The European Club Finance and Investment Landscape report analyzes the financial activities of top football leagues.

The study found that English clubs spent a record €2.1 billion on transfers in 2023, a 17% increase from the previous year. Among the 20 most expensive squads worldwide, nine are from the Premier League. Chelsea tops this list.

Since Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital took over in 2022, Chelsea has signed 41 players across six transfer windows. Their squad’s total transfer cost has now reached €1.656 billion, making it the most expensive squad ever.

Chelsea’s spending surpasses Manchester United’s 2023 squad, which cost €1.422 billion. This highlights the growing financial power of Premier League clubs.
