Russia war: Von der Leyen to present EU arms plan to support Ukraine

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen has promised more support for Ukraine as the country marks three years since Russia’s full-scale invasion.

Before her meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in Kiev, she stressed that helping Ukraine is important for the whole world.

With Ukraine’s budget for 2025 secured, von der Leyen highlighted the urgent need to send more weapons and ammunition. She announced that she will soon present a plan to increase EU arms production, which will also benefit Ukraine.

In addition to military aid, she introduced new measures to strengthen energy security. She aims to fully connect Ukraine and Moldova’s electricity markets with the EU’s power grid by the end of next year.

She emphasized that this partnership is beneficial not just for Ukraine but also for Europe.

Von der Leyen and European Council President António Costa are visiting Kiev to show support for Ukraine on the third anniversary of the Russian invasion.
