Ex-Chelsea striker, Cascarino tells Maresca best position to play Nkunku

Former Chelsea striker Tony Cascarino has shared his thoughts on where Christopher Nkunku should play under manager Enzo Maresca.

Chelsea signed Nkunku from RB Leipzig in 2023 for over £50 million, but the French forward has struggled with injuries and inconsistent performances.

He has mostly played as a backup to Nicolas Jackson this season and was even linked with a move away in January. However, he remained at Stamford Bridge.

Ahead of Chelsea’s Premier League match against Aston Villa, Cascarino told talkSPORT that Nkunku is not suited to playing as a centre-forward. He believes the player performs better when positioned on the left side of the attack.

Cascarino criticized Maresca for selecting Nkunku as a striker, especially after poor performances in recent games against Brighton. He said Nkunku was “non-existent” in those matches and insisted that Chelsea needs to address their centre-forward issues.

“I will give him one benefit of the doubt: he is not a centre-forward. His best play has always been off the left,” Cascarino said.

Chelsea fans will be eager to see if Maresca takes this advice and adjusts Nkunku’s role in the team.
