Former Senator Daniel Bwala stated that Nigerian governors cannot justify claiming that a N60,000 minimum wage is unsustainable.
Bwala emphasized that Nigerians need to understand the true source of their problems.
He dismissed the governors’ argument that paying a N60,000 minimum wage would leave no funds for development, noting that they have no significant development to show.
This statement followed the rejection of the proposed N60,000 minimum wage by governors from the 36 states of Nigeria.
The governors claimed that the N60,000 minimum wage is unrealistic and would force some states to borrow money to pay workers’ salaries.
Bwala, in a post on his X account on Saturday, urged Nigerians to recognize where their real problems lie.

This is even as the former lawmaker said Nigerians should better know where their problems lie.
Bwala dismissed the governors’ claim that there would be no money left for development if they were to pay N60,000 as minimum wage, saying they have no development to show in the first place.
The statement came after governors of the 36 states of the federation rejected the N60,000 minimum wage earlier proposed by the Federal Government.
They argued that the N60, 000 wage is not realistic and unsustainable, insisting that if implemented, it would force some states in the country to borrow to pay workers’ salaries.
However, Bwala, in a post on his X handle on Saturday, said Nigerians should better know where their problems lie.
He said:
“There is no justification for Nigerian governors saying the 60,000 minimum wage is not sustainable when we are talking about upgrading to a reasonable living wage. Nigerians should better know where their problems lie.
“When governors say if they pay 60k there would be no money left for development, you wonder WHICH DEVELOPMENT HAVE THEY BEEN DOING in the first place.
“Since the increased FAAC allocation, very few governors have improved their states or the living conditions of their citizens.
“Hippopotamus federating units.”
