Jay-Z, the famous rapper and businessman, has taken legal action against Texas lawyer Tony Buzbee after being falsely accused of rape. The lawsuit, filed by Jay-Z, accuses Buzbee of defamation, civil extortion, and causing emotional harm.
The case comes after a rape accusation against Jay-Z and fellow music mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs was dismissed in February 2025.
The original case, filed in October 2024 by someone known as Jane Doe, claimed that Jay-Z and Diddy sexually assaulted a 13-year-old girl at a party in 2000.
These shocking allegations received widespread media attention and damaged Jay-Z’s public image. However, the case was dismissed with prejudice, meaning it cannot be refiled.
Jay-Z believes the timing of the lawsuit was planned to hurt him personally and financially. He says the allegations were deliberately filed the night before his daughter Blue Ivy’s major event—her movie premiere for Mufasa:
The Lion King. Jay-Z claims that this strategy led to the loss of $20 million in business contracts, as companies backed out because of the scandal.
Jay-Z also shared the emotional toll the situation took on him. He felt forced into hiding to avoid the negative press and described the situation as a deliberate attack on his reputation.
The rapper is now seeking financial compensation and hopes his lawsuit will send a strong message against using the legal system for personal or professional gain.
