China calls for stronger cooperation with Germany, EU

China is urging Germany and the European Union (EU) to work more closely together in support of free trade and global stability.

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz to discuss strengthening ties.

During his visit to Germany for the Munich Security Conference, Wang also spoke with the EU’s foreign policy chief and officials from Spain and France. He emphasized China’s willingness to deepen cooperation with Germany and the EU.

Germany, which relies heavily on China for its car industry, opposed EU tariffs on Chinese-made electric vehicles (EVs) last October.

Wang thanked Germany for its pragmatic approach and expressed hope that it would help resolve trade issues between China and the EU.

He also highlighted China’s commitment to better relations with the EU and maintaining open communication.

“China is willing to maintain dialogue with Germany and other relevant parties to promote peace talks,” Wang said.

China’s call for stronger ties reflects its push for stable economic relations with Europe, especially as global trade tensions continue to rise.
