US Judge deals blow to Trump’s executive order freezing foreign aid

A U.S. judge has ordered President Donald Trump’s administration to lift a freeze on foreign aid that had lasted for three weeks.

The ruling came from Judge Amir Ali in Washington, following a lawsuit filed by two health organizations that depend on this funding for their programs abroad.

The judge stated that Trump’s administration did not provide enough reasons for halting the aid programs before they were properly reviewed.

The United States Agency for International Development (USAID), which was established in 1961, has been facing heavy criticism lately.

Secretary of State Marco Rubio suggested that USAID could be eliminated after a reorganization in the coming days. In addition, tech billionaire Elon Musk, who leads the newly created Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), is working to take control of USAID.

Furthermore, more than 50 senior officials from USAID have been put on leave and placed under a gag order.
