Former Arsenal player Paul Merson has said that Liverpool will still win the Premier League this season, even after their 2-2 draw with Everton.
Merson believes that if Liverpool had held on for a few more seconds and won the Merseyside derby, Arsenal’s title hopes would have been over.
Speaking to Metro, he said, “The Premier League title race would’ve been all over.”
However, he admitted that Liverpool’s path to the title might not be as easy as many thought a few weeks ago.
Liverpool remains in a strong position, sitting 7 points ahead of Arsenal and 10 points clear of third-placed Nottingham Forest.
For Arsenal to have a chance, Liverpool would need to lose some matches while Arsenal keeps winning.
Merson believes the pressure is now on Liverpool after the draw against Everton. He encouraged Arsenal to keep pushing, saying, “We’ve seen strange things happen in football, so if you’re Arsenal, just keep going and pile the pressure on Liverpool.”
Arsenal, who narrowly missed out on the title last season to Manchester City, will be hoping for a turnaround in their favor. But for now, Liverpool remains the favorite to lift the Premier League trophy.
