Suspected armed robbers stab Uber driver to death and steal his vehicle in Lagos

A tragic incident occurred in Lagos when a 42-year-old Uber driver, Yusfat Ayinde, was attacked and killed by suspected robbers. The attackers also stole his vehicle, leaving the community in shock.

According to Jaiyesinmi Azeez, the chairman of the Amalgamated Union of App-Based Transporters of Nigeria (AUATON) in Lagos, Ayinde was working on Friday, February 7, 2025, when he received a ride request through the e-hailing app.

When he arrived at the pickup location, he was ambushed by a group of criminals.

The attackers stabbed him multiple times before stealing his car. His body was later found dumped along Agindigbi Road in Ikeja and was taken to the morgue.

Azeez expressed deep concern about the safety of e-hailing drivers. He emphasized the need for better security measures to protect them from similar attacks.

“The task force is working with the family and authorities to gather evidence and identify the app used to request the ride. Efforts are ongoing to track the suspects and bring them to justice,” Azeez said.

The union is also discussing additional safety measures, such as emergency response systems and increased surveillance in high-risk areas.

The AUATON Lagos State Task Force has pledged to support Ayinde’s family and ensure they receive the necessary assistance. They are also working closely with law enforcement to find those responsible for his death.

Authorities continue to investigate the case, and further updates will be provided as the search for the suspects continues.
