China is planning to impose new tariffs on some U.S. imports, including energy and vehicles, as part of a retaliatory move. Additionally, China will investigate Google for antitrust issues starting on Tuesday.
This action follows the U.S. imposing tariffs on Chinese products under President Donald Trump.
Before Trump agreed to pause tariffs on imports from Canada and Mexico for 30 days, those tariffs were also set to take effect.
The pause is part of discussions to address concerns over border security and drug trafficking.
Trump is expected to have a meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping soon to discuss these issues.
This is not the first time the two countries have clashed over trade; back in 2018, they engaged in a heated trade war, with both countries raising tariffs on each other’s goods.
