We killed over 100 gunmen recently – Anambra CP

The Anambra State Police Command has confirmed that its officers, along with other security agencies, have killed over 100 gunmen in a special security operation named Operation Udo Ga Achi. Several criminal hideouts across the state were also destroyed.

Commissioner of Police, CP Enaghe Obono Itam, shared this update during a press conference in Amawbia, near Awka. He also presented some criminals who were caught alive during the operation.

The police revealed that their operatives successfully arrested Chidiebere Nwosu, a suspected kidnapper in Uruagu, Nnewi. Some of his gang members, who were involved in an attack on the Rapid Response Squad, were also neutralized.

In another major case, the police arrested suspects linked to the kidnapping and murder of Hon. Justice Azuka, a member of the Anambra State House of Assembly. The lawmaker was abducted on December 24, 2024, and found dead on February 6, 2025 at the 2nd Niger Bridge.

Following an intelligence-led operation, the police and local vigilante operatives arrested nine suspects involved in Azuka’s murder. They also recovered two pump-action guns.

One of the suspects was shot in the leg during a gunfight with the police. The arrested individuals include:

  • Ugochukwu Onuorah (30 years)
  • Ikemefuna Ossai (20 years)
  • Ikenna Orugu (27 years)
  • Chibuike Obiefuna (19 years)
  • Chinonso Olisa (19 years)
  • Chinedu Okoli (21 years)
  • David Ojini (25 years)
  • Peter Sunday (20 years) – Noted for having a chest tattoo that read “No peace 4 d Government.”

Commissioner Itam thanked Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, for his guidance and support. He also appreciated Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo for his role in ensuring security in Anambra State.

The police have assured residents that they will continue fighting crime and making the state safer.
