Veteran Nigerian Broadcaster, ‘Eye Opitan’, Is Dead

Christianah Ademulegun, known as ‘Eye Opitan,’ has passed away at the age of 74 after a short illness. She was the first native broadcaster from Ekiti State, Nigeria.

‘Eye Opitan’ was well-known for her deep knowledge of Ekiti towns and their history, especially the ‘oriki’ (traditional praise poetry).

She died in the early hours of Thursday, and her son, Femi Ademulegun, confirmed the news. Christianah Ademulegun had retired from the Broadcasting Service of Ekiti State but continued to work as a consultant for private radio stations in the state. She is survived by her children and grandchildren.
