Taiwo first joined Marseille in January 2005, moving from a Nigerian Premier Football League (NPFL) team. The left-back quickly became an important figure for the club, playing a total of 271 matches. Over the years, he scored 25 goals and assisted 23 others.
During his time with Marseille, Taiwo helped the team win the prestigious Ligue 1 title, as well as the French League Cup and French Super Cup. His solid performances earned him a transfer to Serie A’s AC Milan in 2011.
