Lagos Police Commissioner Orders Immediate Headcount Of Personnel Within Command To Fish Out ‘Fake’ Officers, Ghost Workers

The Lagos State Police Command has started a full headcount of its officers to find fake officers and ghost workers. This order was given by the Commissioner of Police, CP Ishola Olanrewaju Olawale.

A police wireless message, dated February 5, 2025, confirmed the directive. It was sent to all police units, divisions, tactical teams, and squads in the state. The Commissioner wants the headcount to be completed within a week.

This move aims to improve transparency and ensure that only real officers are in the force. It will also help prevent fraud within the command.

With Ref: CB:4001/LS/DFA/VOL.103/116, and titled: “Order And Directives,” the commissioner warned that any personnel that doesn’t show up after the headcount would be regarded as a ghost worker and fake personnel.

It partly read: “CB:4001/LS/DFA/VOL.103/116 x order and directives x as a matter of urgency x COMPOL directs x you embark on immediate physical headcount x of all personnel yours x within one week x anyone who could not present himself shall be regarded as a ghost worker X and fake x they should present their current payslips x return to reach mine 7 days from date X treat as very important x please x.”
