PSG Refuses to Pay Kylian Mbappe £70m in Salary and Bonuses After His Free Transfer to Real Madrid

Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) has reportedly not paid Kylian Mbappe around €80 million (£70 million) after his free transfer to Real Madrid.

The French star officially became a Real Madrid player on Monday, signing a five-year contract and ending a long-running transfer saga.

L’Equipe reports that PSG has held back significant payments to avoid embarrassment over losing their star player for free.

PSG allegedly did not pay Mbappe his April and May salaries, nor his February bonus, saving the club £70 million. This sum was initially promised as a loyalty bonus when he extended his contract in 2022.

In November, RMC Sport reported that Mbappe, who was sidelined from the PSG squad last summer after revealing he wouldn’t extend his contract, was allowed back only if he gave up his owed bonuses.

The report indicated PSG demanded Mbappe sign a new contract to return to Luis Enrique’s team, which he refused.

As a result, he missed the pre-season tour of Japan and South Korea and had to train with the “undesirables,” players PSG wanted to offload.

Mbappe rejoined the team after missing the first match of the season against Lorient.

L’Equipe confirms these claims but states the dispute was only partly settled.

Mbappe, PSG’s top scorer, saw less playing time after he told the club president he would leave at the end of the season.

Mbappe is now with the French national team preparing for Euro 2024 and will join Real Madrid after the tournament.
