Aregbesola forgives man ‘who attempted to assassinate him’ in 2006

Rauf Aregbesola, the former governor of Osun State, has forgiven Sikiru Olaboye, one of the men who tried to assassinate him in 2006. The two met on Sunday, February 2, after Olaboye sought Aregbesola’s forgiveness through a radio station in Osogbo.

In 2006, during the Oroki Day Celebration in Osogbo, Olaboye and others allegedly planned to kill Aregbesola, who was a political figure at the time. Aregbesola survived the attack, which left his car full of bullet holes.

Aregbesola shared this story with his followers on Facebook, explaining how he learned that Olaboye had called into a local radio station, asking for forgiveness. This gesture moved Aregbesola, who decided to meet with Olaboye in person. During their meeting, Aregbesola prayed for Olaboye and assured him that he bore no ill feelings or resentment toward him.

“I neither harbored any grudges nor sought revenge after God spared my life,” Aregbesola said. He added that forgiveness is a powerful act, and only God can truly forgive our mistakes.

This moment of reconciliation comes shortly after Aregbesola’s expulsion from the All Progressives Congress (APC) following accusations of anti-party activities. Despite the political challenges, Aregbesola continues to demonstrate compassion and forgiveness, showing that healing can come even after deep pain.
