The Lagos State Secretariat in Alausa, Ikeja, has been closed off by the Lagos State chapter of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) to block workers from entering the premises.

This action follows the National NLC’s directive due to the Federal Government’s failure to implement the Minimum Wage demand under President Bola Tinubu.

Workers assembled at 7:30 am on Monday and locked the Secretariat gates, preventing vehicle access.

Armed security personnel from the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) of the Lagos State Police Command are overseeing the action to avoid disorder or miscreant interference.

The closed premises include the Governor’s office, Deputy Governor’s office, State House of Assembly, various Ministries, Departments, Agencies, banks, and other businesses.

A worker who preferred anonymity told Vanguard that he came to work despite union warnings but was blocked from entering.

Messages are circulating, instructing workers to stay home.

NLC State Chairman, Mrs. Funmi Sessi, is present, ensuring compliance with the strike and stopping workers or motorists from entering.

Sessi, seen in a video, criticized the government for ignoring workers’ issues amid the country’s tough economic conditions.

She also instructed officers to enforce the strike at other public offices, including courts and electricity branches.

As of 8:30 am, Lagos workers fully complied with the strike, with no disturbances reported.

Despite the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) directive to join the strike, some journalists are reporting on the event.
