Starting from February 1, 2025, the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) will begin enforcing the law that requires all vehicle owners to have third-party insurance. This new rule, announced by the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, is designed to improve road safety and make sure that drivers are protected in case of accidents.
A statement released by the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, reminded the public about the importance of getting insured. Vehicle owners who do not comply with this law will face fines or other penalties.
As of February 1, 2025, all vehicles on the road must have valid third-party insurance. If you haven’t arranged yours yet, it’s advised to do so as soon as possible to avoid any fines or embarrassment from being caught without it.
Police officers will be conducting checks across the country, and state police commissioners are tasked with ensuring proper enforcement. The police are authorized to impose penalties for those who do not have the required insurance.
The NPF is committed to promoting road safety and protecting lives. They are asking the public to support this initiative and follow the law to make the roads safer for everyone.
