Dozens of FBI agents who worked on Jan. 6 cases and other Trump-related investigations expected to be fired

The Trump administration is preparing to fire dozens of FBI agents who worked on investigations related to former President Donald Trump and the January 6, 2021, U.S. Capitol attack.

Sources reveal that officials are especially focused on agents involved in special counsel Jack Smith’s investigations into Trump’s role in the Capitol attack and the handling of classified documents. The administration is also looking at agents who may oppose new policies.

The firings could begin as soon as Friday, with a final list of affected personnel expected by Monday. This could include field office heads across the country, particularly within the FBI’s Washington, D.C. Field Office.

FBI officials have refused to comment on the situation. However, during his confirmation hearing for FBI director, Trump’s nominee Kash Patel stated that no FBI employees would be fired based on their work on investigations. But the FBI Agents Association expressed concerns, claiming that such firings would weaken the FBI’s ability to safeguard national security and criminal investigations.

In response to reporters, Trump suggested that firing certain Justice Department employees could be beneficial, stating that they misused their authority for political purposes.
