The Nigerian Navy has recently deactivated several illegal oil refinery sites in Kubufari, a community in Degema Local Government Area (LGA), Rivers State, as part of its ongoing efforts to tackle illegal refining activities.

On January 22, 2025, the Navy’s Operation DELTA SANITY, led by the Nigerian Navy Ship (NNS) PATHFINDER, discovered and shut down multiple illegal refining sites in the area. Just a few days later, on January 28, 2025, the Navy team found another illegal refinery in Kubufari. This site contained eight cooking pots, several storage tanks, 15 dug-out pits, and a reservoir full of stolen crude oil.

These actions are part of the Nigerian Navy’s commitment to reducing illegal oil refining and its harmful impact on the environment.
