Passenger jet with 64 aboard collides with Army helicopter while landing at Reagan Airport near DC

A major accident took place on Wednesday at Ronald Reagan National Airport, near Washington, D.C. An American Airlines plane, carrying 60 passengers and 4 crew members, collided with an Army helicopter while landing. The crash prompted an extensive search-and-rescue operation in the nearby Potomac River. Sadly, there were multiple fatalities, though the exact number of victims remains unclear.

The Army helicopter had three soldiers on board. The cause of the crash has not yet been determined. After the collision, all flights to and from the airport were stopped, and dive teams were sent to search the area. Law enforcement helicopters also took part in the search for survivors or bodies.

In a news conference, D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser shared that recovery efforts were ongoing but did not confirm how many bodies had been found. Senator Roger Marshall of Kansas expressed his sorrow, saying the loss of many lives is a heartbreaking tragedy.

President Donald Trump said he had been briefed on the accident and sent his thoughts and prayers to the victims.
