Omoyele Sowore, a well-known Nigerian activist and politician, has pleaded not guilty to the cybercrime charges filed against him by the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun. The charges were brought after Sowore referred to Egbetokun as an “illegal IGP” in a post on his verified X (formerly Twitter) account.
The case took place at the Federal High Court in Abuja, where Sowore was arraigned before Justice Liman of the FCT High Court. When the charges were read, Sowore denied all accusations of cybercrime.
As the trial continued, several of Sowore’s supporters gathered outside the courthouse to protest his arraignment, showing their solidarity with the activist. The case remains a significant event in Nigerian politics, as many follow the legal battle closely.
