The Chairman of the Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission (PCACC), Barrister Muhuyi Magaji Rimingado, has regained his freedom after being detained by the police on Friday.
Rimingado was interrogated for several hours at the Zone One Police Headquarters in Kano. Late that evening, he was granted bail on self-recognition. According to his lawyer, Usman Umar Fari, Rimingado will need to report to the Inspector General of Police’s office in Abuja on Monday for further questioning.
The arrest is believed to be connected to a high-profile corruption case involving Bala Muhammed Inuwa, the former Managing Director of the Kano Agricultural Supply Company Limited (KASCO). Inuwa is accused of misappropriating over N4 billion in public funds.
This case has been ongoing since November 2023, with Justice Hafsat Yahaya presiding at the Kano High Court. Several assets, including money in bank accounts, have been confiscated as part of the investigation.
In December 2023, Inuwa requested another Kano High Court to withdraw police officers guarding confiscated properties. Justice Aisha Ya’u approved the request, but the PCACC opposed the ruling, stating it should have been included in the case as the authority responsible for managing the seized assets.
The PCACC confirmed that the confiscated properties, valued at over N2 billion, were moved to a government warehouse in Nasarawa GRA. This action aligns with Section 40 of the Kano Anti-Corruption Law, which allows the commission to safeguard assets during investigations.
Rimingado recently disclosed that the commission stopped an attempt to relocate these assets, which included trailers, trucks, and vans.
As of now, Rimingado has not commented publicly on his arrest. The case remains a significant development in Kano’s fight against corruption.
