Ibadan North bye-election: 20 APC aspirants jostle to succeed Akinremi

The Ibadan North federal constituency is gearing up for a bye-election after the death of Hon. Musliudeen Olaide Akinremi, who served as the area’s representative. Akinremi, a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), passed away on July 10, 2024, at the age of 51.

Following his death, over 20 aspirants from the APC have shown interest in filling the vacant seat. Among those vying for the position are well-known figures like Olusegun Olaleye, Wale Olatunji, Adekunle Oladeji, and Umar Arisekola Alao, as well as several others. These hopefuls attended a recent meeting in Ibadan, where APC state chairman, Alhaji Olayide Abas, confirmed the growing list of contenders.

During the meeting, Abas addressed the party’s concerns about the high number of aspirants. He assured that the selection process would be fair and transparent. He also emphasized that the constituency needs a representative whose voice will be heard in the House of Representatives, stressing the importance of electing a candidate who will effectively represent the people.

Despite the competition, Abas expressed confidence that the party would select the best candidate to continue Akinremi’s work. He urged the aspirants, party leaders, and stakeholders to cooperate to ensure a smooth and fair process for all involved. With all hands on deck, the APC is determined to choose a candidate who will uphold the interests of Ibadan North and the broader state.
