The Governor of Plateau State, Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, has announced the death of Lt. General Jeremiah Timbut Useni, a former Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). General Useni passed away on Thursday, January 23, 2025, at the age of 82 after battling a prolonged illness.
Governor Mutfwang, in a statement from Jos, expressed deep sorrow over General Useni’s passing, calling it a significant loss to his family, the Nigerian Armed Forces, Plateau State, and the entire nation.
He highlighted the late General’s outstanding leadership and dedication to serving Nigeria, particularly his efforts in promoting peace and security across the country. His contributions were especially impactful in Northern Nigeria and Plateau State, where his work will be remembered for years to come.
General Useni’s career was marked by excellence. He served in key roles, including Minister of Transport, Quarter-Master General of the Nigerian Army, and Minister of the FCT. After retiring from the military, he joined politics, serving as Deputy Chairman of the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP). In 2015, he was elected Senator for Plateau South under the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).
Governor Mutfwang described General Useni as a compassionate, kind, and generous leader who dedicated his life to serving others. He emphasized that the late General’s legacy of service, both in the military and politics, would not be forgotten.
The Governor extended his condolences to General Useni’s family, the Nigerian Armed Forces, and all Nigerians mourning his loss. He prayed for strength and comfort for everyone affected by the passing of this elder statesman.
