Security operatives rescue three pastors, 13 others in Kogi

Security operatives in Kogi State successfully rescued 16 people, including three pastors, who were kidnapped in the Ofu Local Government Area after attending a religious crusade.

The victims, who included guest pastors at the event, were ambushed by kidnappers around 11 p.m. on Monday, January 20, while heading to their guest house after the second day of the three-day crusade. The incident happened on a street near the Ejule-Anyigba road.

Once the authorities were alerted, the Nigerian Army teamed up with other security agencies to launch a search operation. For two nights, they combed through the area before locating the kidnappers’ hideout in a nearby forest.

After a two-hour gun battle, the kidnappers fled, leaving the victims behind. The 16 victims were rescued unharmed, while the kidnappers escaped with injuries.

Kogi State Deputy Governor, Joel Salifu, praised the bravery and swift action of the security operatives. He expressed relief that the victims were freed safely and reassured residents of the government’s commitment to security under Governor Ahmed Ododo.

Salifu also warned that Kogi State would not tolerate criminal activities, emphasizing the government’s dedication to protecting lives and property.

This rescue operation highlights the ongoing efforts to maintain safety and security in Kogi State.
