FG Approves Bola Ahmed Tinubu Polytechnic In Abuja

The Federal Government of Nigeria has approved the establishment of the Bola Ahmed Tinubu Federal Polytechnic in Gwarinpa, Abuja. This decision supports the government’s policy of ensuring every state in Nigeria has a federal polytechnic to promote technological, vocational, and entrepreneurial education.

In a letter dated January 9, 2025, the Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, informed the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, about the plan. The letter, received by the FCT Minister’s office on January 16, 2025, requested recommendations for temporary and permanent sites in Gwarinpa.

Dr. Alausa stated that a technical team from the Federal Ministry of Education and the National Board for Technical Education would visit the proposed locations for inspection. Based on their findings, the final approval for the polytechnic’s sites will be granted.

Additionally, the Minister mentioned that existing tertiary institutions in the area could be converted for the polytechnic’s use if deemed appropriate. This initiative is expected to improve access to technical education and provide more opportunities for Nigerians to gain skills in technology, entrepreneurship, and vocational training.

With this development, the Federal Government aims to strengthen the country’s education system and prepare young Nigerians for a competitive job market.
