Kano police arrest six notorious phone thieves disguising as tricycle riders

The Kano State Police have successfully arrested six individuals involved in mobile phone theft in the Kano metropolis. These suspects were caught stealing phones by pretending to be tricycle riders.

The arrests took place between January 11 and January 15, 2025. The police, working with the Special Intervention Squad (SIS), carried out raids based on intelligence about criminal activities in various areas of the city. In total, 15 stolen mobile phones and two operational tricycles were recovered.

The suspects, identified as Bashir Isah, Isyaku Bala, Mudansir Ayuba, Muzambil Abdullahi, Ibrahim Mohammed, and Hassan Sagir, all confessed to their involvement in the thefts. They explained that their method was to disguise themselves as tricycle drivers and steal phones from unsuspecting passengers.

The police have urged anyone who recognizes their stolen items among the recovered goods, including the tricycles with registration numbers KBT-850WZ and DAL-113WZF, to contact the Kano Police Public Relations Office.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Salman Dogo Garba, commended the police officers for their professionalism and thanked the public for their cooperation, which contributed to the success of the operation. He also warned that the police will continue to target criminal activities such as mobile phone theft, armed robbery, and thuggery.

Residents are encouraged to report any suspicious activity to the nearest police station or call the provided numbers. The police continue to work hard to ensure the safety and security of Kano’s citizens.
