Terrorists ambush troops in Borno, soldiers, civilians missing

Borno State has been struck by another tragedy as Boko Haram terrorists ambushed Nigerian troops and civilians in Baga, near Lake Chad. The incident, which occurred during a recovery mission, has left several people missing and many feared dead.

Nigerian soldiers were on a mission to recover the bodies of 40 residents killed earlier by Boko Haram militants. According to a military source, the troops, accompanied by civilians, went too far into the area and were ambushed by the insurgents.

“There was an exchange of gunfire, and several soldiers were killed,” said the source. The exact number of casualties remains unknown as the bodies have not yet been recovered, and some soldiers are still returning to base.

Around 50 civilians, including members of the Civilian Joint Task Force, hunters, and local volunteers, joined the search to recover the dead. Sadly, only one civilian has returned to the village so far.

According to a local source, the group was ambushed by the terrorists, resulting in several deaths. “We are still waiting for others to return and don’t know the exact number of casualties,” the source explained.

This ambush followed another deadly attack on Sunday in Kukawa Local Government Area, where ISWAP militants killed dozens of farmers. In a separate incident in Gwoza, six people, including repentant insurgents and local security volunteers, were killed.
