The United States House of Representatives has approved a new bill that prevents transgender men from competing in men’s sports and transgender women from participating in women’s sports.
House Speaker Mike Johnson shared the news on X (formerly Twitter), stating, “Today is a great day in America because House Republicans just passed @RepGregSteube’s Protection of Women and Girls in Sports Act, ensuring men cannot compete in women’s sports. Men are men, women are women, and men cannot become women. It’s just that simple.”
This decision is similar to the policy introduced by former President Donald Trump in 2017, which banned transgender individuals from serving in the U.S. military. Trump announced the ban through tweets on July 26, 2017, but it was overturned by President Joe Biden’s administration.
As Trump prepares to return to office, there is speculation that he may reintroduce restrictions on transgender individuals, including another ban on their military service.
The bill has sparked significant debate across the country, with supporters saying it protects the integrity of sports and critics arguing it targets transgender individuals unfairly.
