Sokoto ex-gov, Attahiru Bafarawa resigns from PDP

Attahiru Bafarawa, a former governor of Sokoto State, has announced his resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). Bafarawa, who served as governor from 1999 to 2007, said he is stepping away from partisan politics to focus on a new youth movement.

In a letter addressed to the PDP National Chairman, Bafarawa explained that the youth movement aims to bring positive change and empower young people. He added that dedicating himself to this cause will help avoid conflicts of interest as he works toward transformative goals.

Meanwhile, political realignments continue as the 2027 elections approach. Abbas Sani Abbas, a former Commissioner for Rural and Community Development in Kano, recently switched parties, leaving the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) to join the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Abbas’s defection followed his dismissal from office by Governor Abba Yusuf. The governor also removed other top officials, including the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Abdullahi Bichi, amid growing calls from NNPP leaders for him to strengthen his grip on governance in Kano State.

These shifts reflect the dynamic nature of Nigerian politics as politicians and parties prepare for the future.
