A Nigerian businesswoman has accused a hospital of using an expired IV drip on her mother, sparking a controversy online. She shared a photo showing that the IV fluid had an expiry date of September 2024.
According to the woman, when she pointed out the expired drip to a nurse, she was told it was still effective, even though it had passed its expiry date by three months. This claim was supported by some doctors on social media. However, as it was already January 2025, the drip had actually expired by four months.
In a follow-up post, the woman revealed that the hospital had refunded her after the complaint was made. This case has raised concerns about medical safety and the handling of expired medical products in Nigerian hospitals.
