LaLiga: Shut up, learn from Lionel Messi – Gullit to Vinicius Jr

Former Netherlands football legend Ruud Gullit has shared some advice for Real Madrid forward Vinicius Junior. Gullit believes the young Brazilian should learn from Lionel Messi, especially in how to handle tough situations on the pitch.

This advice comes after Vinicius got into trouble during Real Madrid’s 2-1 victory over Valencia in LaLiga on January 3. During the game, Vinicius received a red card in the 79th minute for slapping Valencia goalkeeper Stole Dimitrievski. Referee Cesar Soto Grado explained that the Brazilian forward intentionally hit the goalkeeper on the head when the ball wasn’t in play, using significant force. As a result, Vinicius has been banned for two matches.

Speaking about the incident on Ziggo Sport, Gullit said:
“I understand Vinicius feels frustrated, but his behavior often makes things worse. If you provoke your opponents, you can’t expect them to sympathize with you. Learn to stay calm. Look at Messi—he faced constant fouls, but he would just get back up and play without complaining.”

Gullit also highlighted that Vinicius often provokes both opponents and fans, which invites more trouble. He suggested that Real Madrid likely talks to him about his attitude, but the young forward seems unable to change this pattern.

For a player as talented as Vinicius Junior, adopting a calm and composed approach, like Messi, could elevate his game even further.
