As 2024 came to an end, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, reflected on the progress made throughout the year and shared plans for a brighter 2025. His focus remains on improving infrastructure, enforcing compliance, and ensuring development benefits all residents of the FCT.
On December 31, 2024, Wike inspected major projects in the FCT. These included:
- Outer Southern Expressway (OSEX): A 15-kilometer road project set for completion by May 2025.
- Court of Appeal Complex (Abuja Division): Expected to be ready by September 2025.
- Saburi Road: A 5-kilometer road project completed on time in December 2024.
The Minister commended the contractors for keeping their promises and assured residents that more road projects in the Area Councils would be completed by January 2025.
Wike addressed concerns about unpaid Certificate of Occupancy (C of O) fees. He clarified that defaulters’ names were published based on official records and urged landowners to settle their fees. The Minister emphasized that after the grace period, unpaid lands would be reallocated to others.
“This revenue is essential for FCT’s growth. Everyone must fulfill their obligations,” he explained.
Despite criticisms, Wike remains undeterred. He acknowledged that governance comes with complaints but insisted that his administration would focus on delivering development for the majority.
Additionally, the Minister reiterated his commitment to enforcing FCT regulations, including the removal of illegal structures when necessary. He believes such actions will bring long-term benefits to residents.
Reflecting on the achievements of 2024, Wike expressed gratitude and optimism for 2025. He called on residents and business owners to support the administration’s efforts, promising even greater accomplishments in the new year.
“We are grateful for 2024 and believe 2025 will be even better,” Wike said.
With a clear vision and determination, Wike’s leadership promises a brighter future for FCT residents in 2025.
