Dele Farotimi, an activist lawyer, has stood firm on the allegations he made against Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Afe Babalola, in his book, Nigeria and its Criminal Justice System.
Speaking to journalists after his release from the Ekiti State Correctional Centre, Farotimi declared that he has never lied about anyone in his life. He stressed that the truth is the foundation of his fight against what he calls Nigeria’s “evil system.”
“It’s not easy to fight evil,” Farotimi said, “but God told me years ago that the truth is enough. It’s the only weapon to conquer the monster called Nigeria. I have never lied against anyone. If I don’t know something, I say I don’t know.”
Farotimi was released after meeting his bail conditions, which included a ₦30 million bond, two sureties (one being a property owner), and surrendering his passport. The court also barred him from granting media interviews after his release.
Earlier this month, Farotimi was arrested over allegations that he defamed Afe Babalola, a prominent lawyer and founder of Afe Babalola University in Ado Ekiti (ABUAD). Despite the ongoing legal challenges, Farotimi remains resolute in his commitment to truth and justice.
