President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved a budget of N95 billion to repair over 16 dams in Kano State and build the Eastern Bypass Road, which will link the southern areas to Kano city.
Musa Illiyasu Kwankwaso, the new Executive Director of Finance at the Hadejia River Basin Development Authority, announced that a technical team has been set up to assess the dams. He mentioned that the project covers key facilities like the Challawa Gorge Dam and Tiga Dam, aimed at boosting irrigation farming and improving agriculture in the state.
Kwankwaso highlighted the efforts of Senator Kawu Sumaila, who secured the funding, and Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin, who supported the launch of the North West Development Commission. This commission aims to promote prosperity in the region and reflects the administration’s commitment to Kano and the North West.
He thanked President Tinubu for his leadership and expressed gratitude to other political leaders and supporters for their contributions. Kwankwaso also assured that the leadership team, including Managing Director Engineer Rabiu Suleiman Bichi and other capable individuals, will ensure the success of the projects.
The administration has also prioritized completing major infrastructure projects like the Kano-Kaduna-Abuja expressway and the Ajaokuta-Kaduna-Kano (AKK) pipeline, expected to be ready by 2025. These efforts underline the government’s focus on boosting development in Kano and across the North.
