The game started with Ghana taking an early lead. Gertrude Amoafa put Ghana ahead in the 13th minute, and just five minutes later, Priscilla Mensah doubled the lead to 2-0.
However, Nigeria didn’t back down. Precious Oscar pulled one back for the Flamingos in the 34th minute, reducing the deficit to 2-1 by halftime. In the second half, Nigeria thought they had equalized in the 66th minute, but the goal was ruled offside. Just three minutes later, their shot hit the crossbar, but they didn’t give up.
Nigeria’s perseverance finally paid off in the 80th minute when Harmony Chidi scored the equalizer, bringing the score to 2-2 and sending the match into extra time.
With neither team able to find a winner during extra time, the game went to penalties. After a tense shootout, Ghana held their composure and won 5-4, securing the title in front of their home crowd.
