Ghana Beat Nigeria 5 – 4 On Penalties In WAFU U-17 Girls Final 

In an exciting and dramatic final, Ghana defeated Nigeria 5-4 in a penalty shootout to win the inaugural WAFU B U-17 Girls Cup. The match, which took place on December 22, 2024, saw both teams put on an impressive show of skill and determination, but it was Ghana who emerged victorious after a 2-2 draw in regular time.

The game started with Ghana taking an early lead. Gertrude Amoafa put Ghana ahead in the 13th minute, and just five minutes later, Priscilla Mensah doubled the lead to 2-0.

However, Nigeria didn’t back down. Precious Oscar pulled one back for the Flamingos in the 34th minute, reducing the deficit to 2-1 by halftime. In the second half, Nigeria thought they had equalized in the 66th minute, but the goal was ruled offside. Just three minutes later, their shot hit the crossbar, but they didn’t give up.

Nigeria’s perseverance finally paid off in the 80th minute when Harmony Chidi scored the equalizer, bringing the score to 2-2 and sending the match into extra time.

With neither team able to find a winner during extra time, the game went to penalties. After a tense shootout, Ghana held their composure and won 5-4, securing the title in front of their home crowd.

This victory marks a historic achievement for Ghana in the first-ever WAFU B U-17 Girls Cup, and they can be proud of their resilience and skill throughout the competition.
