Omoyele Sowore, the Nigerian activist and politician, has accused President Bola Tinubu of causing destruction in Nigeria since he became president in 2023. His comments came after a series of deadly stampedes across the country that resulted in the deaths of over 100 people.
On Saturday, a stampede at a rice distribution event in Okija, Anambra State, killed at least 20 people. The chaos occurred when people rushed to grab rice during the distribution. Another deadly stampede took place at the Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Maitama, Abuja, where an unknown number of people lost their lives.
Reacting to these tragic incidents, Sowore warned that Nigeria is facing serious dangers under Tinubu’s leadership. He believes the stampedes reflect the worsening situation in the country, adding to the growing concerns about Nigeria’s future.
Posting on X, Sowore wrote: “Not less than 100 Nigerians have perished in less than a week in Ibadan (Oyo), Okija (Anambra), and Abuja (FCT) just in search of rice.
“This speaks precisely to the debilitating economic destruction wrought on Nigerians by the @officialABAT regime since his unfortunate ascension to power in May 2023.
“If anyone didn’t know how bad things are and how our people are really desperate for survival, this unprecedented but unwarranted death by hunger-suicide tells the real story. Nigeria is in trouble and Nigerians are endangered! #RevolutionNow.”
