On Saturday morning, a fire broke out at a petrol station in Itam, Itu Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State. The fire, which consumed an entire truck filled with Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), caused significant destruction to the station.
Firefighters from the state fire service, with support from police officers, worked for hours to control the blaze. Witnesses reported that the flames were intense and initially seemed to overpower the efforts of the firefighters.
Motorists traveling along the Itam-Ikot Ada Idem road, a key route connecting Ikot Ekpene and Uyo, noticed the fire early in the morning. Although the cause of the fire remains unknown, investigations are underway.
“I am only afraid the fire might result in the loss of lives. Property and resources lost can be regained, but we don’t want any human life to be affected,” a motorist at the scene expressed.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Timfon John, confirmed there were no casualties. He stated, “The police were contacted as soon as the fire started. We are conducting an investigation to determine the cause of the outbreak.”
Thankfully, no injuries were reported, and authorities are working to uncover what triggered the incident.
