South African authorities recently arrested two Nigerian men, Chima Ihekwoaba (44) and Uchechukwu Mbaogu (26), on charges of drug trafficking. The operation, led by the Hawks’ Serious Organised Crime Investigation team in Port Shepstone, was supported by other units, including Crime Intelligence, the K9 Unit, and Tactical Response teams.
The arrests were made in Park Rynie near Scottburgh following multiple undercover operations and suspect profiling. During the raid, police seized several drugs, including rock cocaine, CAT, and crystal meth, with a combined street value of approximately R8,700. Additionally, cash totaling R38,450, believed to be proceeds from drug sales, was confiscated for further investigation by the Asset Forfeiture Unit.
The suspects appeared briefly in the Scottburgh Magistrate’s Court, where they were remanded in custody. The case has been postponed to 30 December 2024 for further proceedings.
