As the festive season approaches, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Barr. Ezenwo Nyesom Wike, has called on security agencies to ensure Abuja remains safe for residents during Christmas and New Year celebrations.
At the FCT Security Committee meeting held on Friday, December 20, 2024, Minister Wike stressed the need for residents to enjoy the holidays in peace. He emphasized that criminals often try to disrupt festivities but assured the public that measures are being taken to prevent such incidents.
“We must remain vigilant and prepared. The people of Abuja deserve to sleep peacefully and run their businesses without fear. While security has improved, we cannot let our guard down,” Wike stated.
FCT Commissioner of Police, CP Tunji Disu, revealed that joint security teams will conduct patrols and clearance operations to ensure maximum safety. Residents were urged not to be alarmed by the sight of heavily armed security personnel, as these measures are for their protection.
- Border surveillance: Security will be tightened at entry and exit points of the FCT.
- Bush clearing operations: The Army, Navy, Police, and other agencies are clearing bushy areas to prevent criminal hideouts.
- Air surveillance: The Nigerian Air Force will deploy helicopters for aerial monitoring.
- Joint patrols: All security agencies will collaborate to maintain peace.
CP Disu also thanked residents for their cooperation and encouraged them to report any suspicious activities or persons to the authorities.
