A Magistrate Court in Ekiti State has granted bail to human rights lawyer, Dele Farotimi, setting the amount at N30 million. His court appearance on December 20 was marked by heavy security, with police and other law enforcement agents ensuring order.
The Chief Magistrate, Abayomi Adeosun, approved the bail with strict conditions. Farotimi must present two sureties who are respected members of the community. Additionally, he must surrender his international passport to the court and is prohibited from giving media interviews while the case is ongoing.
This follows Farotimi’s detention on December 7, 2024, after he was charged with 16 counts of criminal defamation. These charges relate to the publication of his book, Nigeria and Its Criminal Justice System.
Farotimi’s case has attracted significant public attention, with many closely following the developments in this high-profile legal matter.
